Join JW Colwell of the LOUD AND NERDY Podcast and Rich Drees of FILMBUFF ONLINE as we start a look at famous films that inspired sequels that took awhile to get. Classic films often inspire sequels to spawn a franchise but sometimes a classic film inspires one but it takes a little longer creating what we call LEGACY SEQUELS.

 

Released in 1986, ALIENS Written and directed by James Cameron is widely regarded as one of the greatest SCI-Fi Sequels of All-Time! The sequel follows Nostromo survivor Ellen Ripley played by Sigourney Weaver as she follows a band of Colonial Space Marines to a colony on the planet from the original classic ALIEN. The film is vastly different from the original in tone and intensity. It is more of an Action Movie Roller Coaster than the original haunted house in space design of ALIEN. Weaver's performance as Ripley is iconic with her battling the creature she fears most to protect another lone survivor of the colony in a young girl named Newt.The film is defined as one of the greatest sequels ever as well as one of the defining films of the 80s and in celebrating its 40th Anniversary as a true SCI-FI Classic is in a class of its own.
